Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
AS a person who was on both sides of the coin when it came to this film i feel i have a little insight as to how close things were to the truth. In the film i was just a doorman with out a line who had the wondrous job of staying there and looking menacing. Not something I have got a problem with as I spent may years in the security industry prior to this. I had at the time of the murders been in the employ of Pat Tate on the doors of Club UK, Hollywoods Romford mainly. Pat was made out to be a nasty man, but the truth was he was just an average guy with temper and an angle on wanting a better life. The film glamorised the violence, the drugs and the other silly roomers that were always floating around, but then if it was any different they would never had made it
this is the first movie inspired by the rattendon range rover murders.the others are (rise of the foot-soldier and bonded by blood) but this one is easily the best. tom Wilkinson is a great actor as he really flexes his acting skills in this movie and so does Sean bean the movie is great from start to finish and will keep anyone who is interested in British crime entertained. NOTE:there is a rape scene in the movie that did make me very nervous on watching the rest of the movie but I'm glad that i did because it really does have a dramatic ending witch did leave me shouting at the TV.if anyone enjoys this movie perhaps you should check out the books and other movies.rise of the foot-soldier is a bit too violent and bloody but is still good.bonded by blood is a little better that rise of the foot-soldier but not as good as Essex boys give it a go!!!
This is one of my all-time favorite gangster flicks, not because of its witty dialogue, but because the criminals are shown as they really are... greedy, selfish, backstabbing psychos. These are the guys who you see on the news doing the parking lot shootings, taking out those who cross them. Not filled with the witty repartee of American gangster movies, this one cuts to what really makes these guys tick, as we follow one young man as he's drawn deeper and deeper in a life that is way over his head. As the violence unfolds, his gets swept into a nightmare from which there is no escape.Great performances from a truly stellar British cast. The story keeps moving logically, sweeping us into the violence of the criminal lifestyle, whether we want to go there or not. If you like raw, violent movies that don't try to cater to your sensitive nature, then you'll enjoy this movie.
I didn't really like this movie, but had to admit it was compelling. Sean Bean gives a performance as the evil drug thug that compares favorably (if that's the word I want) with Dennis Hopper's crazed bully in "Blue Velvet." It's outstanding work, but if you're a Sharpe fan (and who isn't?) it may be a bit jarring. I mean, this guy throws acid in faces, beats his wife, laughs at suffering, rapes a teenager and strangles her more or less accidentally. That's in addition to selling the drugs and other criminal activities.Bean is, in fact, so good at being bad, he almost tips the movie over. Alex Kingston and Jim Wilkinson - versatile, dependable and often outstanding actors themselves, do what they can to take a scene away from him, and never quite manage. Charlie Creed-Miles, as the innocent who gets drawn into all this, is quite convincingly intimidated. An icy jazz score and crisp direction keep the story moving along at a brisk pace. You may be repulsed, but you probably won't be bored.
