I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Dame Judith Anderson must have been a Cow Head or in her dotage to accept such a parent in such a pathetic movie.I don't want to hear that the Richard Harris character eventually accepts humility after he is captured by a ferocious Indian tribe and subjected to all kinds of torture. In the meantime, his two aides were killed by the tribe and that is quickly conveniently forgotten.Anderson adopts to some sort of Indian dialect in this farce. She is as brutal as they come in her treatment of the captured Harris at the beginning of his captivity. This was nothing more than a liberal propaganda like film teaching to love your enemies.

In the movie A Man Called Horse, there is many changes to the original story by Dorothy Johnson. One of the minor things changed was the names of the characters. This was a minor change to the story because in my opinion the names changed did not affect the plot and the overall message from the original story. Another minor change in the story was in the original book the Indian tribe Horse lived with were the Crow tribe but in the movie they were the Sioux tribe. I think this was minor because I don't think there were many differences between the tribes There were two major changes from the original story as well. One of them was the use of the character Baptise . In the Story by Dorothy Johnson, Baptise was only mentioned minor and did not play a major role in the book. But in the movie, Baptise had a huge role because he was the one who knew how to speak English and the Sioux language. This helped out the main character, Horse, as Baptise acted as a translator for him . Another major change in the story is they added was they added the sun vow and the sweat lodge scene. I felt this improved the story because it showed the process and ceremonies in detail how Horse became married to Running Deer which was left out in the original story .

I did not like the special effects they did because they were not very good. When horse stabbed that man, there was no blood on him. Usually when you stab someone, their blood goes everywhere. I also think the fighting scenes were very fake. I thought the part when he was being raised by the muscles was funny. When Horse cut himself in the stomach the cut was there for a second and went away in another second. I thought that it was not planned out at all. I did not like the special effects even though the movie was made a long time ago. I thought the special effects were very tacky and unplanned. When Horse cut his stomach it looked somewhat real until the next scene where there was no cut there was only blood. I thought that at the end when the old lady was freaking out, she should've been more realistic. I thought that the beginning was really boring because there was no action at all. I did not think there was enough action in the movie entirely which made the effects look really tacky. I did not like the special effects of the techniques, I thought that they were very bad and not planned at all.

A quality movie I considered myself privileged to watch at the time & remain appreciative of! A quality movie tends to stay with the viewer when it is no longer viewed! And so it is with "A Man Called Horse", countless years beyond! Appreciation of the dilemma - white man isolated vs wilderness the indigenous have conditioned themselves to, layer by layer … vs its emerging inhabitants of seeming modern intellect & wisdom, but lacking much of what it opposes. And their interactions! Layer of justice & fairness upon layer, constantly emerging with much need for protection yet sensitivity! Not easily merging neatly. So not always pleasant, but always intriguing & engrossing & swinging like a pendulum ... still more into layer upon layer! Bravery & courage, mixed with betrayal & fear.On top of the underlying concern, both for the Indians & the pioneering spirit of the oppressed! Don't miss this intriguing interaction of mutual frontiers, much more so than the dramatic conflicts & sportsmanship of grid iron, & ice hockey, & rugby or football drama that have long superseded such civil wars, into a greater global peace!
