I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
August Underground is definitely an important film to underground horror film making. It had nothing to it, but showed that there are directors out there who are willing to go that extra step further to capture the depravities of humankind. It is everything that the word "Horror" stands for, so I thought that although August Underground wasn't my cup of tea, it understood what true horror is all about. Unfortunately with August Underground Mordum, they pushed the boundaries too far and as a result, lost the realism that the first one created. Mordum came across as a film that's sole purpose was to provoke an angry response. It was the rebellious kid at school who miss behaves because he wants the whole class to look at him. Seeking attention was something I didn't feel so much with the first one, but scenes in the sequel will have you thinking the exact same thing (that the sequel tries too hard). Now don't get me wrong. The first AU has scenes that are truly horrifying and disgusting, but never really elevated to the level of being unrealistic. It had a strange subtlety to it that made you think "this could be your next door neigbours", but AU Mordum just goes beyond that and to the point of a bad horror movie that you have seen before. Its basically a lazy film that was created off the success of the first. Nothing new, just increased the level of depravity to the point where it doesn't feel real anymore.
This film is in all sense of the word... horror! If you sometimes like an occasional horror flick, go away, rent, watch, see, get involved in something else! You won't like this. Even in the event of the excitement of being told you won't like this.... YOU WON't LIKE THIS!!!This is, in every sentiment, an absolute, cut to the bone horror fans film!Even a seasoned gore, snuff, extreme horror fanatic can appreciate the boundaries this film attacks. Only the truly dedicated will find this film appealing. I love horror, and I give this film a higher rating purely because of it's absolute shock power! This is not a scary film! It is in absolution horrific!!!The cinematography is rigid; borderline awful. The acting is.... so foul that you may almost believe that antagonist's could be real! Those who question the acting at all, could arguably be appealing for a scapegoat from this film. I didn't once believe that such horrifying acts of human indecency could, or have not occurred. There is no mold for this film! Cannibal holocaust comes to mind; but even it had a moralistic endeavor... a plot at the very least.A U M! is the essence of pure chaos! A film that represents absolute indifference to human life. It almost makes a mockery of child sexual abuse, but saves itself with it's only hint of human questioning. Apart from that, there are no holds... it's barbaric, ancient, and relentless! It examines, and exposes the narcissistic voice in all our minds. Face it! You have all thought of at least once of the horrific happenings in this films... you have! And that is why this film resonates so negatively with everyone. To avoid anguish, and anger against human prehistoric mentalities avoid this! It is not simply a shocking scene from the book/T.V series A game of thrones! This will shock you! SHOCK YOU!You will hate it because you've been programmed to! Do not watch this! Unless shock is what you want! This isn't a scary movie! It's a horror movie! An absolute horror experience! You've been effin warned...Hold onto your cocks boys! You've been warned! Guys don't watch this in the hopes of scaring a lady into your safe arms. She will most probably violently resent any attempts of compassion once this film begins... No Sh%^t!
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS When I say terrible I mean the acting, effects, camera, everything in the movie. It starts off with a guy having sex with his girlfriend then the guy is yelling "OPEN THE F*CKING DOOR OR I WILL BREAK IT DOWN " and it shows that he has a hammer in his hand a few seconds later the girl and guy yell at each other. The guy is saying "YOU'RE A FU**IN WH*RE YOU STUPID B*TCH" then the girl walks away from yelling and screaming she then gets a peace of glass and cuts herself. Later on they break into a house and kill a guy with a hammer. Trust me it's a waste of time a I'm surprised I watched the full thing. There is about 4 rape scenes the first one has a girl being forced to rub another girls vagina. A man is forced to cut off his own penis with scissors it shows everything. A Few seconds later the girl puts it in her mouth then puts it in the other girls vagina. Sorry if it's hard to read my typing. It starts off stupid and ends stupid and it is boring cause there is no plot and no story. You will fall asleep because it is very sh*tty and annoying.I wasted my time on this peace of sh**.
Never before have I watched something so disgusting, shocking, perverted and downright wrong. Do not even bother with this film unless you can genuinely handle hardcore gore and seriously messed up themes. This one has it all- Incest, vomiting, castration, necrophilia and most disturbing of all paedophilia. The creators of this film certainly succeeded in creating something vile, something that causes the viewer to cringe (at least I hope everyone responds that way, because if not I am a little concerned)The filming itself looks very realistic and you could be forgiven for thinking you were witnessing an actual snuff film. I found the hand held style a little annoying at times, but necessary to create that realistic effect which adds that extra punch to what is a very twisted 'storyline'.I use the term storyline loosely because this film does not really have one. It's clear the characters are beyond messed up and I felt the acting was quite good. I believed the characters and I felt a deep hatred towards them, especially that of the brother. He genuinely looks insane. The gore in this film was also fantastic and they are really good at what they do. There were several moments when I had to look away. The castration scene was horrid and I do not even possess a penis! The vomiting really got to me as well, especially because I have heard that they were genuinely vomiting in that scene. I could not watch the bathtub scene. If you don't know what I mean, it basically involves one of the main characters, engaging in necrophilia with a very, VERY young girl. I enjoy messed up, but not that messed up. I feel that a personal line was crossed, and I kind of hate these guys for making such a scene. This film is exhausting, and at the end I felt kind of depressed. For that I applaud the film makers, as they did an excellent job of f*cking with my mind.
