Vincke and Verstuyft are one of the best detective teams of the Antwerp police force. When they are confronted with the disappearance of a top official and the murder of two prostitutes, the trail leads to the almost retired assassin Angelo Ledda. Since Ledda starts showing symptoms of Alzheimer's, it's getting more and more difficult to complete his contracts. When he has to murder a 12-year old call-girl, he refuses and becomes a target himself. While Vincke and Verstuyft are chasing him and counting the corpses, Ledda is taking care of his employers.

It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
An old hit man must battle the effects of Alzheimer's disease while staying one step ahead of a corrupt and bureaucratic Belgian police force. Van Looy has created a slickly entertaining film, but in the end it feels like empty calories, with too much style and little substance. The representation of Alzheimer moments using a weird green tint becomes annoying, as it doesn't really serve any purpose. The film moves at a fast clip but loses momentum about two-thirds of the way through and then goes on a bit too long. Decleir gives a good performance as the killer. The running gag about people urinating into the locks of BMWs is meant to be hilarious but is simply lame.
Being Dutch I was very grateful having seen this movie with Dutch subtitles, as I find it very hard to follow Flemish. And I would have hated to watch the movie dubbed with voices speaking standardized Dutch. That is one of the most ridiculous things I can think of! In my opinion De Zaak Alzheimer (I also have read the excellent book) surpasses every single other Belgian or Dutch movie, with the possible exceptions of Paul Verhoeven's excellent De Vierde Man and Bert Haanstra's Fanfare. Superb storytelling, great acting, especially by the seasoned Jan Decleir. This one is a treat for those who love policestories but do not need fastspeed action scenes. Like the famous French policiers De Zaak Alzheimer has a far more realistic feel than the average Hollywood police movie. The opening scene of De Zaak Alzheimer is one of the most disgusting I have ever seen. And no, no gore involved.
Dark film, subtle construction of atmosphere, special thriller and ash taste. Exploration of social realities, illusions and justice, fights against shadows and fall of a career. It is a different crime film because, in all story, the mixture between American instruments to be cool and the science to discover the action as a spectacular puzzle is proof of a refined art to suggest deep gestures and nuances of fear. The memories of some sexual Belgian scandals, the politic life as secret cage, the noble desire of an old killer, the lights, music and precision of director's art moves the classical recipes in a intelligent movie- source for reflection.Anatomy of society, skin of terrible sick, search of truth and lies like refuge, Anvers in strong lights and deep sequences, this film is pledge for fundamental values recognition.
The Alzheimer case, or de zaak alzheimer in Dutch, is a movie that has surprised both friend and foe. Eight years of hard work done by the witty and seemingly all-knowing Eric Van Looy have resulted in a movie beyond the scope of its country. The story contains intrigue, humor, love, deception, emotion,... everything a quality movie should have. Jan Decleir, playing Angelo Ledda is one of the most talented actors this world will ever see, too bad he was born in Belgium, but his talented is uncontested, as he was part of the Oscar-winning "Karakter", the beautiful, Oscar-nominated "Daens" and many other moving motion pictures. The entire cast is made up of the crème de la crème of Belgian actors, the direction is incredible, the action is great,... If you haven't seen this movie yet; make sure you see it quickly. If you have already seen it; watch it again!fredo
