It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
If you are a fan of the man , watch this film . he is absolutely off his head ( probably literally ) brilliant! for the most part filmed in one room , it is a real comedic treat to see the brother in action with his two leading ladies.
A very talky but interesting movie about fidelity, female and male sexuality. Downey Jr, Graham and Wagner make this hot potato topic interesting and quite smart. We follow these three characters discussing and fight when it comes to what's right and wrong when it comes to romantic relationships. The style of the movie felt more like a play where the actors only are seen in two different "stages". The editing and camera-work was quite jarring.. other than that it fitted this tiny budget/independent 90s film. It also had the look of the first season of the iconic 90s TV-show Sex and the city in color, a bit in script and in the interior, but also the tiny look we get of New York reminded me of the mid- to late 90s New York that was so famously seen in the TV-show.
I'm not a New Yorker, but have spent enough time around there to get a feeling how people think. Clevernesss and fast-talk are the name of the game there, whether you're high-brow or low-brow. Two Girls and a Guy is an excellent product of that culture. The two girls are smitten with the fast-talking boyfriend, an actor, fantastically played by Robert Downey Jr. But they face reality after realizing he's been two- timing them. It's a shock at first, and this produces some of the best confrontational dialog in the movie, but his theatrical talent is overwhelming to them. They still want him, in spite of his lies. The wild card in the story is his mother's illness...is it real or just a way to avoid talking to them? You don't really find out until the end, because Downney is such a phony, you're not sure he knows what's real to himself, forget about the two girls. The ending is cathartic. Will he learn from what he has done and from the power of love and human forgiveness?
This movie is about pathetic, spoiled, ego-driven winers who think they have something interesting to say, performed by pathetic, spoiled, ego-driven winers who think they are interesting. Straight from the coke-filled gutters of New York's arty farty incestuous drama scene. How so many viewers get tricked into making them think this carries any substance remains a mystery to me. Maybe they secretly long to belong too to this overpaid and overestimated 'actor guild' or maybe they have never seen a decent movie?Get out, put your hands in the dirty earth and get a real job. Otherwise, kill your self with a real gun.
