Good start, but then it gets ruined

Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

One thing I can't understand about a number of low budget B movies made in the last 15 years or so is why their makers seem to think they can pass various locations in Bulgaria off as American locations. I can tell them right now that except maybe movies taking place in the wilderness, this deception DOES NOT WORK. Including this location - it's painfully clear that this American-set movie was shot in Bulgaria in every scene, with its eastern architecture and costumes. Still, I might have forgiven this movie for that if it delivered the goods, but it doesn't. The movie botches the scenes where you think there would be some good gratuitous nudity, and the fights (less fights than you'd think, by the way) aren't very exciting, running very short and not having very spectacular choreography. The movie also runs very slowly, with nothing but some extremely bad acting to amuse the audience along the way. The series came to an end at this point, not a moment too soon.

The last movie in the Bloodsport series is also (and predictably) the weakest. Daniel Bernhardt returns once again as Alex Car..oops, sorry as John Keller (!?). Yes, the name of his character changes, for no apparent reason (This also happens in the American Ninja series. My theory is that this IS Alex Cardo, but something happened between 3 & 4 and he had to change his name). This fact aside, Bloodsport 4 : The Dark Kumite, goes the route of the "cop undercover in prison" and handles it pretty well. What's wrong then? Well, the "dark kumite" the title promises is really quite bad: very few fighters, even fewer good fighters, and fights so short you'll miss them if you blink. However, outside of this failed kumite, the movie's alright, and if you've enjoyed Bloodsport 1, 2 & 3, and don't expect too much out of 4, you should check it out.

* Minor Spoilers Below *This movie is hilarious. 95% of the cast is Russian, although it's supposed to be taking place in America. The villain is a guy who calls himself Caesar, lives in a big mansion, and has about 30 female slaves. His sidekick is the prison warden who screams like a maniac if a fighter doesn't kill the other guy. What's interesting is that in Bloodsport 2 and 3 the main character is "Alex Cardo" played by Daniel Bernhardt, and in this one Daniel Bernhardt plays a guy named John Keller, nothing to do with the previous 2 films. What the heck? Let me sum up the plot. John Keller infiltrates a prison where prisoners keep mysteriously disappearing. His job is to find out what's going on. There he meets psychopath Justin Caesar (Ivan Ivanov) and the sadistic warden Preston (Derek McGrath).I would really like to know how this guy got to direct this film. I love this movie so much because I laugh a lot when I watch it. It is truly an unintentional comedy, and I have already recommended it to friends. The best part is two people singing at this kumite and dancing around for a couple of minutes before the fighting begins. Another great thing is the way Caesar talks. This guy is extremely slow, and his voice is sometimes not in sync with his mouth-movements.On an entertainment level, this gets a 7. On a quality level, this get's a -5.

Stefanos Miltsakakis is awesome. Unfortunately even he cannot save this horrible movie. Stefanos plays a villian named Schrek. He's a huge hulk of man who can take a beating and keep fighting. He's appeared in five Jean-Claude Van Damme movies including: Maximum Risk, The Quest, and Lionheart. This movie, unlike some of his other projects, is just one major cheese fest. The plot is thin, the acting is wooden, and while there are some good fight scenes (with Stefanos, of course) it's just not enough. The main bad guy, the prison warden, is totally laughable. So, if you're forced to watch Bloodsport: The Dark Kumite I recommend you fast forward to the fight scenes because you won't be missing much.
