A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

I recommend "Patrik 1,5" for several reasons. This film gives me a cultural shock that in a developed and open (as far as I know ) country like where the movie is shot people there are still kinda homophobic. This attitude is introduced in the onset of the film which gives a good background and hint that the couple's family-wish is challenged not only by the adaptation legitimate restrictions but more severely by the local. The story is clearly developed as Göran being the center. There's no many irrelavant side stories. This movie is tightly-told and slow-paced. Whether you want to know more about Sweden, or gay relation/gay adaption, you can't miss this one.

A film all based on qui pro quos. A gay married couple in Sweden comes into a new neighbourhood. Goran is a doctor and Sven is his husband. They were accepted for adoption but they were finally answered that no country in the world accepts to entrust a child for adoption to a homosexual couple. The deception is great but one day a letter arrives from social services. It contains a mistake and they are announced they will get a child of 1.5 years of age, Patrik is his name.Unluckily the kid that arrives is in fact 15, mother dead, father unknown, ten years in foster homes and institutions, a lot of delinquent acts, etc. Sven panics completely whereas Goran accepts the child, or rather teenager. Strangely enough Patrik is going to help Goran and Sven get accepted in the neighbourhood because he becomes the gardener of everyone, for money of course, and he becomes the skateboard coach of the kids in the street, etc.The end is a happy ending of course and it is not the real interest of the film. The real interest is to show that after and beyond all kinds of prejudices people deeply need at any age simple contact with others, contact that is called love and that it has nothing to do with sex really. Love is the food of angels and all children, and all people should be angels and get their ration, and even more that that everyday, of love. And it is so simple at times to find what can give someone the certainty they are loved, the guarantee they will be loved. Of course it is not simple and it cannot be easy to do but it is needed, provided people get out of their fears and fear is bigotry most of the time. We have no reason to be afraid of anything. To give a child one's own shirt for that child to look good when he needs to look good is more important than all the treasures of Arabia. That's the message of this film, and as such it works marvellously.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU

It's an enormous relief to spot that a number of contemporary gay-themed films are not wallowing in the coming-out-of-the-closet drama which dominates the genre since early 90s, like Ira Sachs's autobiographic self-inspective melodrama KEEP THE LIGHTS ON (2012, 7/10), this 2008 film, a Swedish dramedy from female director Ella Lemhagen dabbles in the foster family territory, a married gay couple, are jauntily expecting an adoptive infant boy from their hard-earned opportunity (god knows how difficult it could be in the real world), nevertheless what eventually arrives is a 15 year-old delinquent courtesy of a peccadillo (a miss-put comma, literally) by the adoption authority, and as one could easily assume, contradictions and correlations among the three male creatures kick off in a well-balanced but over-sanguine spectacle.Don't be disappointed if the majority of the real Nordic lands are not as bright and sunlit as this film portrays, distinctly has shot in the prime season of the year, the picturesque settings are as pleasant and care-free as the tenor of the film, even the most conspicuous scandal, the connotation of pedophilia is only backhandedly passing by without hampering the generally feel good tone. The cast is properly chosen, the Gustaf Skarsgård and Torkel Petersson pair doesn't ignite an authentic homosexual attraction or ambiance within (just judging by the film, I could ascertain that both actors are straight in real life) but Gustaf is splendidly managing a carefully-studied walking posture, which is convincingly gay-proof. The young actor Tom Ljungman has some hooligan strain, but the character itself has never done any damage or rebellious enough to make things uglier (a merciful gesture from the filmmakers). So after all, this film has some merit in bringing a whiff of fresh air into the stale corner but the truth is, on the whole, it is just too sweet and mediocre to be appreciated just as Gustaf's character, a idealistically nice guy and deserves a perfect life while being simplified into a role model like an existential angel, alas, film should originates from life but also should outstrips it, this one barely accomplishes this gauge.

This film from Sweden supposedly is a comedy about the problems of a gay couple adopting a child. These nice 2 guys thought they were getting a 1 1/2 (1,5) year old boy, The lad is a 15 year old troubled youth. The young actor playing Patrik is excellent & is the only reason I stayed for all the film. There are very few laughs or even chuckles. As a drama,it misses the mark as well. We have seen this type tale many times with a heterosexual couple. You can guess the ending ,in the lads opening scene. The guys playing the couple are quite good as well,BUT its the lad who is the main reason to see this.Ratings: **1/2 (out of 4) 72 points (out of 100) IMDb 6(Out of 10)
