Excellent, Without a doubt!!
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
'Evil Aliens' is Britain's answer (or rather 'homage') to 'Evil Dead,' only with aliens, obviously. It's about a camera crew who travel to Wales to film a local's story about how she was impregnated by an alien baby and, once there, they discover that there's more to the country than just a rogue sheep. There are no recognisable actors in this film (unless you count the cameo from Norman Lovett from Red Dwarf and even he's hardly on form). Therefore, the cast appear largely as novices to their profession. Please don't expect any form of Oscar-worthy performances here. Secondly, the special effects are pretty hit and miss. Those created by CGI are pretty below par and akin to something you'd expect to see on the Sci-fi Channel's worst offerings. However, the effects created by generally ripping people apart and severing limb with garden tools are actually pretty decent (if you like seeing people being run over and splatting under combine harvesters). With it's poor acting, clichéd dialogue and so-so effects, 'Evil Aliens' is a pretty poor offering. However, it does have one saving grace. It KNOWS it's a poor offering. It never tries to be a great work of art, therefore it does come across as quite 'knowing.' It knows what it is and it never tries to be anything else. That leaves you to just sit back, put your brain on hold and enjoy watching people being chopped up in as many and varied ways possible. No matter how bad it gets, the classic scenes just keep coming. I've already hinted to the combine harvester, but there are also such delights as alien sex, alien 'Jerry Springer' shows, inbred Welsh farmers engaging in a stand-off against psychotic, bloodthirsty monsters and a low-grade dominatrix who just so happens to be an awesome shot with a shotgun. If you're looking for a deep and meaningful film, you won't find it here. If you're looking for a fun, gore-fest to generally laugh at how bad it is, then you should appreciate it.
You know those TV programmes which make out they are serious investigations into the paranormal. Well, this movie features such a film crew who are investigating reports of aliens - they know it's all nonsense, so does their audience and, oh dear, they just happen to have encountered actual aliens, and they're not friendly. All this happens in the depths of the Welsh countryside. This film has a lot going for it, particularly a knowing screenplay which is constantly winking at its audience, and lots of gory mayhem for those who are fans of such things. It also manages to make a very small budget look merely small.Unfortunately, its very creditable attempt to make a sci-fi horror comedy with goals which exceed its apparent ability to achieve them is fatally compromised by some of the ropiest acting I have seen in a long while. The lovely and personable Emily Booth is head and shoulders better than everyone else and, to be perfectly frank, she's pretty dire, too.
This was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. I appreciate that you are on a low budget but there's no excuse for this kind of garbage. It's got every kind of cliché, from the down home country folk to the sex obsessed aliens. There's sex all over the place and really bad gore. It's about as fun as watching the Parliamentary channel while drinking a flat diet coke and waiting for your desperately needed turn in the bathroom. The characters are all cardboard cutouts. There's the dumb hot girl, the gay guy, the nerd, the country girl, the weird country brother, the serious hot girl. When one dies you really won't care. I would avoid this.
Evil Aliens owes a huge debt to Peter Jacksons early films Bad Taste and Braindead.I must confess to never enjoying those films particularly and i say the same about this.Jake West is a director who clearly lacks inspiration of his own and chooses to steal from those whom he looks up to.I lost count of the amount of times a major Hollywood film was quoted most notably James Camerons Aliens. The amount of blood and gore on show here isn't funny either, the latter end of the film becomes tired and dragged out.Maybe it would have worked better as a short film. The actors a poor, the direction is weak and the plot is non existent.I can see what the director was trying to do,the homage he was trying to pay,but others have done the same thing a lot better than presented here. 4/10
