Antisocial

Five university friends gather at a house party to ring in the New Year. Unbeknownst to them, an epidemic has erupted outside, causing outbreaks around the world. With nowhere else to turn, they barricade themselves indoors with only their phones, laptops, and other tech devices. They use their devices to research the possible cause of this outbreak. Information and video footage over flow their computers as they descend further into the cause and the ensuing chaos. As the virus spreads, the mood in the house changes from fear to paranoia. Who is safe? Who can they trust? Reality becomes blurred as they slowly discover the source of the virus causing the sickness...and there is no going back.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Another zombie type film . Medium to low budget , looks OK , and all the camera work is fine , easy to watch , which sometimes these zombie flicks are just appalling this one is OK. The story is a little diff to your usual zombie flick which keeps it interesting but it's not amazing. Hence I gave it five out of ten. There are worse films out there so if your bored its OK entertainment. The actors are all OK , semi pro , nothing to moan about there . Soundtrack is OK , not amazing in my opinion. I watched it and it kept my attention , now it's over I don't have an epic zombie film to think over. Would I recommend it ? Only if your someone like me who's seen everything and needs more zombie food . There's better out there but there's also worse zombie flicks out there , worth a watch if you can't find anything else to watch , but if you want a great zombie flick you wanna watch dawn of the dead.

Five university friends gather at a house party to ring in the New Year. Unbeknownst to them, an epidemic has erupted outside, causing outbreaks around the world.Scott Weinberg of Fearnet says, "If you can get past the fact that the flick is composed of 75% recycled ideas and 25% new ones, you may find that something to like." Sounds to me like Weinberg does not understand how the horror genre works -- few movies today have less than 75% recycled ideas. Why gripe about this one? Indeed, this was an interesting satire and attack on social media. Silly, maybe, and certainly nothing that can be taken too seriously. But not the terrible film critics (especially Rotten Tomatoes) makes it out to be. When compared to the technology-themed "The Den", this is the more mature and accomplished approach to the Internet Age.

At this time, the cause of the outbreak is still unknown. We are going to our emergency broadcast system at midnight. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of this planet, and the millions of souls humanity has lost tonight. Happy New Year, and may God be with you."Mix "The Social Network" with "World War Z" and you get "Antisocial" as a result. A horde of computer minded people who are all addicted to a social networking platform. And from one day to the other they start to "unfriend" everybody in the worst way. Is it a bad movie? No, not really. Is it an excellent movie? No, you can't say that either. Is it worth it to sacrifice 90 minutes for this slasher / zombie / outbreak movie? If it's your favorite genre, it's definitely worth to have a look. So, where does the shoe pinch ?Firstly, you can't say that the subject is very original. But it does use a different angle. You can compare it with the book "Cell" by Stephen King (I'm also reading that book, yes), in which modern society is disrupted by an electronic pulse that goes viral and gets people to use extreme violence. In "Cell" it's the worldwide use of mobile phones that causes society to collapse. In "Anti Social" it's the use of the so-called social network "The Social Redroom" (although it looks more like a dating site than for example Facebook), mainly by young people, that causes the mass hysteria. It may seem preachy saying that social networks are not too kosher, but actually this is in line with recently released movies. In those other movies they point at the danger of artificial intelligence (The Machine, Transcendence, Her) or show a society that's turned back in time (Dragon day) by sending a virus via the mobile network.Second, they could have shown the overall mass hysteria in a better way. Not just by using some CNN-like news reports. The only other signs we witness is the banging of frenzy-behaving people on windows and doors. You don't get the feeling this is global. You can only imagine it while looking at those news flashes and the chat sessions that one of the six students has with a good friend. The largest part is set in the barricaded house where the six companions try to survive and of course become a victim eventually. The most imaginative fragment is in the beginning where we witness the emerging frenzy. Two best friends put together a video for their blog about teen clothes they bought that day. At one time this goes horribly wrong and we witness what this condition results in. The way this was filmed is pretty crazy and chaotic. I suppose it was intended to visualize the state of mind of the insane.Thirdly, the acting isn't that impressive. In retrospect one can conclude that this is as in most slasher films. The presentation of all the key players in the beginning using their profile from "The Social redroom" was extremely successful and original. There were some strong emotional moments that were played excellent. Like the moment everyone realizes that there are not many survivors in their circle of friends. And although they find out what causes all these problems, they stay connected all the time and they won't let go of the constant communicating.Fourthly. Those who are waiting for the gore parts of this movie, must have an immense patience, as this rather takes a while before it kicks in The final denouement and solution of the whole problem is completely explained. The healing process is even demonstrated by a surgeon live. For the fans, I can only say you can expect some exploding heads and a drill, which is needed eventually to solve the situation. Unfortunately, some interesting ideas were not developed further (dead people still remain connected to the World Wide Web)."Antisocial" is a typical slasher/zombie story with a fairly innovative subject. Only the elaboration is rather meager and looks unfinished. Despite being a low-budget film, it still manages to be an entertaining movie, infused with the satirical message about how our daily life is intertwined with the social media and what impact this might have on us. All things considered, it's just an ordinary teen slasher film (and there are made zillion of this kind of movies) where they are picking numbers so to decide who's next. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but unfortunately they didn't succeed in making this an spectacle that leaves a lasting impression.More reviews at http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be

A group of university friends make a party to celebrate the New Year. However, a strange epidemic of violence erupts all around the world, apparently related to social networks, and they are forced to fight for survival as everything goes mad around them.It sounds good, it feels good. My thoughts, as I first read about this film and started watching it, was that this could be like a 'Pontypool' type of zombie/outbreak film mixed with 'Pulse's technology based horror. A try at social commentary, which could work well with this horror style.Well, I guess I shouldn't have been expecting an intelligent horror. The comparison to 'Pulse', rather than the much better and original 'Kairo', was the only of my expectations to be met.The whole 'social network zombies' concept the film seemed aimed for (and some reviewers seemed to believe make it deep and original) ends up as nothing but a half-assed excuse to indulge on the usual horror clichés (in special, the zombie ones). Weak, drowzy acting cast performing stereotyped or disengaging characters prone to stupid and nonsensical decisions, together with a complete disregard for logic on the plot development or even in basic research (the way the 'virus' spreads... seriously?).The set-up is relatively promising, and the concept could be developed nicely. A problem most modern horror makers do is believing everything needs to be fast-paced; 'Antisocial' ends up moving so fast it rushes through the good parts of the concept. Rather than doing like 'Invasion of Body Snatchers' or 'The Thing' and building up the suspense, playing with the whole paranoia situation the film could easily create, they instead rush through for the zombie gore and Resident Evil-like 'action girl fights zombies' 'action'.As it turns out, the conflict and the tension are far too phony to work, the characters are both moronic and cannot bring the audience to care about them, and the only thing this whole film offers is the usual clichés rather than something new. Some reviewers here are trying to defend the film with the 'argument' that it pretty much 'tries to be socially engaged, exploring new themes for an horror'. It is not exploring or engaged at all; it is just the same old with a half-assed excuse to try and hide the film's shallowness. Trying something new is good, but if you do so like 'Antisocial' it is better not to try at all.
