Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Young Angelique (Caitlin Wachs) is pregnant with Satan's baby. In a casting irony, Hellboy, Ron Perlman is the father of Angelique and is part of the Pro-Life movement. The abortion clinic where she is at believe Ron Perlman, her father, raped her. They can't perform the abortion without his permission and they can't let her go back to him. The story oozes and drips with irony and role reversals.F-bomb, no sex or nudity, exploding head.
59/100. The main thing about this film that really bothered me through most of it was when the phone lines were cut. Okay, this is made in 2006, so you are telling me none of the dozen or so people in the building didn't have a cell phone to call the police? That old cutting the phone lines routine doesn't work anymore. It worked fine and added suspense to movies from other decades, but not today. As a story it was interesting, a sort of twist on Rosemary's Baby. It can be very unpleasant at times, and if you can get past the plot holes, it's pretty good. The acting is fine, good special effects for the most part. It certainly has it's creepy moments.
It's about 2 Doctors who find a scared girl, they take her to the hospital where they work and they find out she's pregnant. Later her father is there too, he wants to stop a possible abortion 'cause god told him so....This is amazing it where just 53min but man it's one really tension-filled masterpiece that it's better than a lot of action movies.I think this short-movie is a combination of classic John Carpenter atmosphere mixed someway with Tarantino-like style and it's got a little touch of Resident Evil(not the bad Jovovich Movies, I mean the games). So if you like tension-filled action-flicks with horror-atmosphere or just like Tarantino/Rodriguez Movies you gotta watch this ! It's really awesome.
Horror master John Carpenter contributed one of the best entries to the first "Masters of Horror" season with "Cigarette Burns" (Season 1, Episode 8), but he sadly didn't keep the high quality Horror up with this fifth episode of the 2nd season, "Pro-Life". "Pro-Life" certainly has its qualities, as it's pretty disturbing at times and furthermore stars none other than Ron Perlman, who is always an enrichment to the films he stars in. The episode also has its faults, however. Strangely, all MoH episodes that have a somewhat political theme or subplot seem to be lacking in many departments and "Pro-Life" is no exception to that. While the episode is brutal, disturbing and occasionally also quite creepy I couldn't say it was genuinely scary. A religious fanatic (Perlman) attempts to 'rescue' his pregnant teenage daughter from an abortion clinic, and is determined to use any violence necessary to do so. His daughter however, has some very particular reasons for wanting to abort... While "Pro-Life" is not one of the very good episodes of the series, it certainly isn't one of the bad ones either. Ron Perlman is great as always in the role of the religious fanatic, and his performance alone saves this episode from mediocrity. The daughter, played by Caitlyn Wachs, is the only lovable character in the episode. The problem about the episode is that, other than the innocent daughter, there is really no character one would care about. Actually, I almost wanted everybody else to die. Like "Cigarette Burns" this is again one of the most violent entries to the series. One scene, in which abortion devices are 'misused' is especially nauseating. Overall, "Pro-Life" is not breathtaking, but a worthwhile episode for MoH fans.
