The Brain Eaters
A huge, alien structure resembling an inverted cone, appears in the woods outside a small rural town. Sent from Washington to investigate the origin of the mysterious object, a team of investigators discovers that intelligent parasites from inside the "cone" can attach themselves to humans' nervous systems and control their minds, taking control of the authorities and workers, making communication with the outside world impossible, and leaving the responsibility of stopping the invasion up to seven people who have thus far been able to avoid possession by these creatures from parts unknown.

Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Good movie but grossly overrated
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
A couple are driving down a country road and see a bright flash,so of course they pull over to investigate. It cuts to a crazy angle shot of them and some high voltage power lines so you know those lines will have something to do with the lame plot. So they start walking into the forest(why not?) and it immediately becomes dark outside. There ends up being many times when it goes from dark to light when the camera switches angles. They find some weird dead animals and a "space ship",a senator is sent to take charge,a scientist goes inside the ship and says its just one big spiral tunnel(while you can clearly see its a big empty space inside). So the group which consists of 2 scientists,a few random girls, the senator and others, decide to search the forest in pairs, great idea. Of course they all have guns and constantly use them. They always point the guns at the ground and to the right of the person but the person dies. Two of them run into some guys from the ship, there's a little smoke and the woman goes way overboard on the fake choking.I've seen enough of these crappy movies to know that smoke means something.Just not sure what. They later go into the ship again but this time it's not just a spiral and there are people in it.The entire thing is full of smoke so you can't see how dumb it looks. This movie is only good for making fun of it.
Ah, those unique low-budgeted Sci-Fi/horror movies from the glorious 1950s If they were only half as great as their juicy titles and nasty film posters suggest, this would surely be my absolute favorite decade in cinematic history! Unfortunately, however, behind almost every awesome title or poster there's a mostly dull, forgettable and inept amateur film. Take "The Brain Eaters", for example Do you really think it features any brain munching or purple glaze-eyed creatures with vampire fangs? No, of course not, and even the promising tagline "crawling, slimy things – terror bent on destroying the world" shouldn't be taken too seriously. But that doesn't mean that director Bruno VeSato (usually a second rate actor) delivered a film that is entirely without interest. "The Brain Eaters" is, in fact, an unauthorized adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's novel "The Puppet Masters"; about an evil race of sluggish parasite aliens (?) that attach themselves to their hosts' nerves system at the back of the neck and then slowly take control over their body and minds. When two young love birds discover a cylinder-shaped vessel in the woods, their sleepy little Illinois town is quickly overrun by scientists, politicians and other kinds of nosy visitors. When a bunch of investigators witness how the usually conversational and amiable mayor suddenly transform into an aggressive maniac due to the unidentifiable thing in his neck, they realize that the entire planet is in danger! The plot and the screenplay of "The Brain Eaters" are actually quite good. I don't care if it's considered to be plagiarism or not, but the idea is original and the twist about the parasites origin is surprising as well. Good pacing and a fair amount of suspense are also present, but sadly only during the first half of the film. The second half is incredibly boring and it almost even seems like most of the cast and crew members lost interest to finish the film. It's also supposed to star Leonard Nimoy, but I guess I'm not enough Star Trek fan to have spotted him.
This American International sci-fi feature only runs 60 minutes; that includes shoddy editing and typical B movie dialogue. Things will never be the same in the small town of Riverdale, Illinois. Brought to the attention of local scientists, a mysterious three-story-tall, cone shaped object sits on the outskirts of town. Did it fall from the sky or did it burrow its way from underground. Dr. Paul Kettering(Ed Nelson) and Glenn Cameron(Allen Frost)run test after test gaining very little knowledge. Leading Riverdale citizens disappear shortly and return a bit rattled and acting zombie-like. It seems the strange object may be a transport vehicle for parasites that crave eating brains...animal...and human. Other players include: Joanna Lee, Cornelus Keefe(Jack Hill), Jody Fair, Greigh Phillips, David Hughes and a short appearance by Leonard Nimoy. THE BRAIN EATERS is produced by Nelson with the aid of Roger Corman.
Funny movie. Mystery Science Theatre 3000 material all the way. I would guess, due to the rough and shoddy editing, that the movie was originally longer than 60 minutes.Interesting that there are two scenes that escaped the censors of 1958 -A see through peignoir and the cop's hairy chest shown when his shirt is ripped open during a fight. I personally love these old B movies and while this one was not up to the usual "standards" of early horror films, it had some truly giggity moments. (Heavy breathing by the brain eaters and the pipe stem antenna where great touches.) I rated it a 7 due to the abundance of truly bad acting, dialog and editing. It doesn't get much worse than this which is what makes it so good.
