Absolutely brilliant
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
This should be a comedy? A horror? Or they wanted to be a sexy movie, piled with innumerable girls only in swimsuits? I like wacky comedies, when they are successful. Here we got just a bunch of so-called actors who are flocking into each other in a castle inhabited by awkward monsters, including a ghost-woman, a gorilla and many many morons. They are just fooling scrolling back and forth, totally pointless. Nancy Sinatra's pathetic, like everyone else. Poor Boris Karloff, he was impressive as Frankenstein. Neither the songs in the film don't save anything because they are awful too. Piccola Pupa, who was full of life, singing Italian songs in the '60s, present in a scene, does not save anything. If you watch this, the only thing you want is to finish faster.
Although completely unaware of it, "Hiram Stokely" (Boris Karloff) has been dead for about week and he learns about his demise from a ghost by the name of "Cecily" (Susan Hart). She also tells him that if he can perform one good deed in the next 24 hours he will get to go to heaven. Not only that, but as a bonus he will become young again as well. The catch is that he cannot venture outside of the basement in which he has been interned. With very little time to lose he decides to help three of the people in his will to circumvent the evil plans of his attorney, "Reginald Ripper" (Basil Rathbone) who wants all of the money for himself. And Reginald will stop at nothing—including murder—to get what he wants. However, even though Hiram has the help of Cecily, his attorney has enlisted several people also and they know every trick in the book. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this is the 7th "beach party" film which began with the movie "Beach Party" back in 1963. Yet while it doesn't have any beaches or surfing it does have some recurring characters like "Eric Von Zipper" (Harvey Lembeck) and his motorcycle gang known as the "Rats". Likewise, it also features some attractive young ladies like Bobbi Shaw (as "Princess Yolanda"), Nancy Sinatra ("Vicki"), Quinn O'Hara ("Sinistra") and the aforementioned Susan Hart. Unfortunately, the comedy isn't too sharp and the overall movie just isn't as good as any of its predecessors. Accordingly, I rate it as slightly below average.
Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, The (1966) * 1/2 (out of 4) An old man (Boris Karloff) dies but can't get into Heaven until he does a good deed so his ghost goes back to make sure his crooked lawyer (Basil Rathbone) doesn't rip his family off. This is a stupid mix of horror and those Beach Party movies, which doesn't work on either level. One has to wonder what type of smoke was being passed around at the studio who said okay to this film. I'm really not sure how much of a demade there was for a horror Beach Party movie but I hope this thing made money for them. This isn't the worst film ever made but I can't say I enjoyed too much of it. The supporting players are all rather bland and the teens are just downright annoying as is the music, directing and pretty much everything else. Rathbone appears to be having fun in his role and Karloff is good in the few scenes he's in. Fans of the two legends might want to watch this once but you've been warned.
Ridiculous movie--just the title should tell you something. It's something or other about a ghost (in a bikini of course) trying to revive her dead boyfriend...or make him younger...or something silly. He's played by Boris Karloff who watches the movie from his crypt through a crystal ball. Poor Boris...he was reduced to THIS???? Basically this was the last gasp for the "Beach Party" movies. They were loosing money so they transferred the action to a "haunted" house and some dumb plot about a fortune being hidden. This is chockful of stupid jokes, bad songs, LOUSY acting and some "teenagers" in their 20s who should not be seen with only a skimpy bathing suit.It might be fun if you're in a REALLY silly frame of mind--otherwise this is truly an abomination. Not even bad/good--just BAD!!! Kids might go for it.
