Highly Overrated But Still Good

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

This film is decent enough 'bargain-bin' entertainment if you ignore the misleading description. It was clearly made before Jackie Chan became well known; he plays one of the villains and is far from being the main character… that doesn't stop his name appearing in large letter on the box along with his picture! This unfortunately creates an entirely wrong impression of what to expect. The story involves a woman who flees from a gang in a taxi; she is seriously unwell and asks to be taken to hospital. On the way she dies but not before she stashes a purse in the taxi. It contains evidence against the gang and they want it back. This proves troublesome for the taxi driver, Chin Chen, who has no knowledge of the purse. The gang repeatedly attack him to demand the return of the purse, they search his house and even send a woman who claims to be the dead girl's sister to retrieve the purse. Soon afterwards her real sister, a police woman, turns up and works with Chen to expose the gang…something that will inevitably put them in danger.Once I'd got over the fact that this wasn't really a Jackie Chan movie I rather enjoyed it; yes it was distinctly low budget but the story was solid enough and the fight scenes were entertaining even if they weren't particularly intense. Charlie Chin is a likable lead as taxi driver Chin Chen and the rest of the cast are decent enough. The version I watched was dubbed into English; this dub wasn't too bad for the most part although at one point the dialogue disappeared for a couple of minutes during what may have been a key scene! It was also presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio that rather than following the action appeared to just show the centre of the original widescreen version; this mean if a the person talking was at the edge of the original picture we just got an off-screen voice which was rather odd. Overall this wasn't a bad film and having seen this version I can only think a wide screen sub-titled version would be better.

This is probably the worst Jackie Chan Film ever made. The film was originally called Police Woman, and Jackie plays the leader of a gang of Hong Kong Street thugs, with what has to be the gayest mole in the history of cinema. It looks like someone drew it on his face with a marker pen, and didn't stop drawing it: Half his face is covered in this ridiculous mole! The story revolves around some bloke who accidentally leaves his wallet in the back of a taxi. Cue Jackie Chan, who doesn't use any martial arts of any note at any point. This film is like a porno without the sex. The plot, characters, acting, dubbing, and cinematography, if you really want to call it that, are all of, "no wait - is this a joke?" quality.Once Jackie became really famous, and with some bright spark who snapped up the distribution rights for this film coming up with a nice idea, the film was re-named Rumble in Hong Kong, which fooled people into thinking that this was a prequel to Rumble in the Bronx. The film ends abruptly, and on the version I saw, there is a, "big, important," scene near the end, where the vision is there, but the dialogue has not even been dubbed! The voice-over actors found this film so bad that they fell asleep, too.Never ever watch this film. I'll give you my copy for free, if you really want to waste a couple of hours of your life. But if you really do want to waste time, come round and do my garden for me. I'll draw a giant mole on your face as payment...

I saw this movie on sale and it was cheap so i bought it. the DVD case has Jackie Chan all over it saying that this was a rare forgotten classic! Yeah right! my ass! (pardon my language!) All i saw was bad dubbing, bad acting, slow and boring fight scenes and Jackie doesn't even in it that much! When he is he is running around with a huge spot on his face which is embarrassing. I felt sorry for Chan and all the actors because they will always be ashamed by the fact they starred in this trash! It has the worst fight scenes ever! there very very slow and tiresome. I will never watch that disgrace of a Kung Fu movie ever again! such a waste of time and money. so glad that when i bought this, it was cheap. I wish i never bought it. So, if you are a Jackie Chan fan like me, don't be fooled by the cover! Jackie is barley in it!when he is, the directors and writers make him look stupid and embarrassingly! I'm so glad that he wasn't the main role because that would be a bad start to his early carrier! If anyone actually wants to watch this, god help them! they are making a mistake! They have been fooled and cheated by the DVD cover! hopefully this movie will be banned for being so crap and trashy!

This is a very bad Jackie Chan movie. He plays a villain with only a handful of scenes in the movie. The police woman does not have a prominent role either. The movie was renamed Rumble in Hong Kong for obvious misleading marketing purposes. This movie is not included in The Essential Jackie Chan Sourcebook in his list of films. After seeing it, one can can understand why. Chan is not a main character and walks around with an eight ball sized hairy mole on the left side of his jaw. It looks like a mouse attached to his faced. The plot concerns a bunch of people after a purse or the contents thereof. The fight scenes are unspectacular, but dig those 70's clothes and the TV show-like soundtrack from the 70's. The movie ends rather abruptly, as if the producer ran out of money to either develop the remaining footage or to actually shoot more footage. The dubbing is laughable also. This is perhaps the worst example of an early Chan movie. 0 of 4 stars.
