So much average
It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
I'm a Mary Stuart Masterson fan, but after watching "West of Here", I found myself wanting to watch "Fried Green Tomatoes" (or "Benny and Jung") again, just to get the bad taste of this film out of my mouth. I felt everyone's acting was "stiff" and dry! The plot was familiar, as there have been several "road trip" movies over the last several years where boy (or girl)finds self with the help of another. It seemed to me that the budget must have been near non-existent and that the time alloted to make the movie was minimal. I realize that this film was created through the work of MSM's family members, and hope MSM will be more selective of future films that she will appear in.
This picture is the evidence of a first time director working feverishly to fine tune his craft. I found it boring, horribly acted and visually looked liked soft core pornography one would normally find on Cinemax in the middle of the night.
