To me, this movie is perfection.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Peter Bogdanovitch is obviously in love stars and being among them - the starrier, the better.After a while, some of his films like this one seem to feel like "us" (the stars) vs "them", (the unanointed audience). He seems to have assembled a sure-fire formula for success - the glitziest supported by a Cole Porter score. The problem, of course, is that the singers can't sing or dance at all. What in the world was in the mind of the director. He was star-struck - that much is completely obvious - but it ended up that the stars were stuck. So was the audience.Curtis Stotlar

There are worse films. There are worse musicals. There are far worse singers than Burt Reynolds, and far worse dancers than Cybill Sheperd. This movie is full of things that are far from as bad as they could be.It's a worthy attempt at making a traditional musical in a contemporary way, and the segues into the Cole Porter songs kind of work, and it reminded me more than once of the camp original Batman series, in terms of its grip on reality. But A.L.L.L collapses at the first hurdle because the characters and plot absolutely fail to engage within the first scene, let alone the first twenty minutes. As the actors drift, some more stiffly than others, into one cheerfully interpreted Porter classic after another, you realise that that's all this movie has got: it's shot its bolt within 15 minutes. So if you want a high camp disaster musical get Xanadu or even Cliff Richard's Take Me High or Wonderful Life - or the Bee Gees' Sergeant Pepper for a real jaw-dropping treat. At Long Last Love is not worth your time on any level, which is sad really because with the right pacing and a stronger story Bogdanovich might have carried it off. The musicality isn't the worst thing about it - don't imagine it's a camp classic.

This is a wonderful, fun musical featuring a superb cast. It was made before I was born, so I know nothing apart from what I've read about the critical panning it received on release but it surprises me that there was no real love for it at the time. I'm amazed this has never made it to a VHS / DVD release, and it's a real shame that it won't be seen by a wider audience.The cast singing live definitely sets this apart from other musicals of the time but I think that's what sets this movie out from other musicals of the era. Bogdannovich should be commended for trying something different and the cast are all great singersA true cult classic with a career defining performance from the fabulous Madeline Kahn. Eileen Brennan is also superb as the coarse, sex-starved, man-eating maid! This is well worth the effort seeking it out if you're a fan of any of the cast, and if you enjoy light-hearted, good natured musicals.

This is one I have saved-One of the few that is so bad I show it to friends for laughs-Inept out of tune singing is over reached by ludicrous clumsy dancing- No one is in step!!! Even in a publicity still I saw.Bad singing is no problem if it is part of a good natured joke in movies like Paint Your Wagon-Lee Marvin-Clint Eastwood??? Singing??? SURE!! Why not???In At Long Last Love the plot is equal to the rest of the film-so dumb it's fun ___The back story seems to be Bogdanovich and Shepherd were an item and he decided to make her STAR with ready made Cole Porter songs and a 30's setting which had served him so well previously. Love is indeed blind, his critical judgement was lost behind and the result? A Classic- I save it with Plan 9 from Outer Space & Oasis of the Zombies to show when everyone is ready for silly!!
