Let's be realistic.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

It is too easy at times to lump every single thing from a country into one box and leave it at that. I did this when I saw that this animation was Russian; having been to a few different parts of that country on 6 or 7 occasions now, I do know that the people are not the people that the grey, rather oppressive country and cities would suggest, however I still brace myself for their animation to be industrial forms of constructivism, with a sense of depression and misery to them. This was a preconception that I was very happy to have totally thrown away by this short film, which is so full of naïve wonder and joy that I cannot imagine anyone hating it.Our narrator here is a child, one who believes his mother is an airplane, and who we join of a flight of wonder and adventure where she takes him on a flight and keeps him safe. The child delivering the narration has the right tone of voice and energy, it is infectious and it reminds the viewer of a feeling we all had when our parents were amazing creatures so detached from our world, but where safety was guaranteed and worry was always far away. The film takes this feeling and runs with it, delivering a sweetly creative and loving film, where the childish view of the world is captured really well in this fantasy.Visually the animation is great – like a living children's book, while the music is charming and matches the color and energy of the film. It is sweet and it will connect well with that childish trust and love that we all felt at times long before we realize that our parents are just people, with no more or less sense of the world than we have. Aronova captures this really well with all parts of her short, making it a really cheering and warming experience, totally free of cynicism and fully embracing the joy, trust, imagination and wonder of a child – a very refreshing feel in a genre usually filled with knowing smartness and references.
