Too much of everything
Such a frustrating disappointment
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
You don't come across this type of movie everyday. When you do watch it, it sticks with you, unlike the multitude of comedy films lost in genre's milieu. The style and substance of the movie would appeal to a cult following without doubt, but it also has sufficient sitcom elements in it to appeal to the tastes of a more diversified and less discerning audience. In other words, almost everyone should find something for them in the movie, those in their 20s-40s will find the movie to hit all the right notes. The script is excellent and the screenplay is well paced. The comedy is layered and repeat viewing would reward the viewer with hidden gems of humor. A lot of the comedy is contextual, wherein the writers and producers are indirectly commenting on pop culture and portrayal of Delhi in real life and media. As a viewer your mileage depends on your awareness of the pop culture tropes and ability to interpret the symbolism embedded in the scenes. There isn't any part of the movie which is boring or a scene which feels forced, so the movie editors have done a sterling job. The cinematography is also on point and akin to any top quality movie, it is obvious that a lot of effort has been put in to achieve the directors vision of framing each scene. The lead and supporting actors were top notch. Some of the tertiary actors and extras could perhaps have done a less over-the-top acting reminiscent of mainstream melodramatic Indian cinema, but perhaps that was an intentional gibe at Indian movies in general. The movie ends with the antagonists getting their just dues and the protagonists getting their deserved new views: that the real gems are oft concealed in plain sight and the pointlessness of owning gems if you can't appreciate their true value.
Our Bollywood industry seems to be growing up day by day and this has again proved by this film. Clearly a laugh riot with a brilliant stand up comedian Vir Das and the not so fat in real life Kunal Roy Kapoor. Our very own Mr.perfectionist aamir has rightly chosen to produce a film, which exactly uses slangs like slangs, not behind the beeps;shows kisses like kisses, makes out in bed,not hiding the lovers behind the umbrella or petals of flowers like 90s. what they do just do. there are many scenes which may give audiences the feeling of disgust but hello..it is the name of the movie itself. Shehnaz and Anusha were like an extra treat to us. we have really want to think over that if Aamir has chosen Imran for being his nephew only or he really sees the potential in him because it could have been better with a little bit Experienced actor. & last but not the least, the most famous track "Bhaag D.K.Bose" has pointed a finger (i hope you understand which finger I am talking about) to the censor board with a saying "BAN me if u can",which really deserves a bow from us.
I heard what people have said about this movie. People said that how could Amir Khan produce this kind of movie. They also said that after Blockbuster movies like "Ghajini" and "3 idiots", why has he made this kind of movie. But it is one of the finest movies of our bollywood industry. Some people might have problem with the language used in it, but its language is the soul of its movie. While the original version was in "Hinglish", a Hindi dubbed version was also released. The film is about three friends, journalist Tashi (Imran Khan), photographer Nitin Berry (Kunnal Roy Kapur) and cartoonist Arup (Vir Das). The whole story starts with delivery of a package. Tashi's ditzy fiancée, Sonia, is an air hostess who agrees to deliver that package for the villain (Vijay Raj) without realizing its content. Later the bag containing that package is mixed up with other bag and then Vijay Raj tortures people to find his package. The acting of all the actors was splendid. Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur were quite impressive. Although Imran Khan was in lead but the supporting actors were superb. Vijay Raj did amazing comedy although he was in role of villain. His dialogues were astonishing. Abhinay Deo and Akshat Verma were the directors of this movie and they did appreciable job. Akshat Verma is also the writer of this movie. The screenplay was original which knows the difference between physical comedy and slapstick humor. The music of the film was composed by Ram Sampath while the lyrics were penned by Amitabh bhattacharya,Ram Sampath, Akshat Verma and Chetan Shashital. The song "Bhaag D.K. Bose" created controversy upon its release. Whatever media says or people say but this movie amazed everyone. Super fun. Full Respect.
The film somehow begins like a Quentin Tarantino movies with crude humor, strong colors, action, and obscenity. If you are planning to watch a movie with your family, just stay away from this movie. But if you are matured enough to let go all the obscenity or crude humor of this movie, the film feels much like 70s/ 80s comedies directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee like "Golmaal," "Naram Garam," or 'Rang Birangee." There is much of twists, pace, curiosity, and inventiveness in this comedy just like in the Mukherjee's comedies. Just didn't get why the film contained much of the profanity if it could have been made without it which could have made it an entertainer to be watched with your family. At the moment, I praise the movie for its inventiveness and at the same time would like to warn you about its obscene content for which the film can't be recommended to every group.Rating: 2 stars out of 4
