Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Good concept, poorly executed.
Absolutely Brilliant!
While the movie does take a few aspects from the book it fails at being a true adaptation. From leaving out critical storylines to the horrible ending, it's hard to stomach how they butchered this story. The poetic ending of the book is gone. You are left with sappy Hollywood mush.
I have been using IMDb for 8 years and this movie made me decide to register for the first time just to review it. Besides "speaking to your soul" and being extremely well acted by EVERYONE, the movie contains so many viewpoints of the same story, which gives it so much depth and you a feeling that you are watching several stories not just one.I appreciate the positive tunes throughout the movie in spite of the gloominess of the plot as is obvious from the very beginning of the movie. Cameron Diaz is extraordinary in this movie, I do not remember having seen her in any similar or similarly serious role. The flashbacks are done very intricately and the movie respects the intelligence of the viewer with little expected revelations and twists here and there. The only reason I gave it an 8 is because I'm a big fan of tough grading :)Beautiful, sad, joyful, hopeful, captivating, loved every minute of it.
My Sister's Keeper (2009): Dir: Nick Cassavetes / Cast: Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Jason Patric, Sofia Vassilieva, Alec Baldwin: Sad yet moving drama about responsibility. It regards a family torn in grief when eldest daughter is cancer ridden and the youngest who was an expected donor takes legal action in hopes of having a normal life. Perhaps the brother isn't necessary but the screenplay plays out many flashbacks to establish relationships. Directed by Nick Cassavetes who previously made Alpha Dog as well as the popular tearjerker The Notebook. He is given very strong performances that carry this film beyond its mood. Abigail Breslin plays the younger daughter taking a major stance in order to live a normal life. Cameron Diaz plays her frustrated mother focusing on the condition of her oldest daughter while causing friction with her younger. Sofia Vassilieva plays the cancer victim recalling better memories. She accepts her condition and cherishes the life she has lived but more so maintains close ties with her sister. Jason Patric plays her father understanding Breslin yet unable to communicate with his wife until he states stern terms towards the conclusion. Alec Baldwin steals moments as an attorney working for the Breslin character in unique circumstances. Very well made but the film plays as a preparation for death but fails to address the afterlife. Score: 8 / 10
Once again, I had to watch this film for a summer course, and I probably never would have pursued watching this movie it that weren't the case. I am going to try to be unbiased since this movie has a completely different output than the novel (which I also had to read for the class).I'll just say it: this movie is pretty boring. The film attempts to reveal the points of view of the core characters, but it shouldn't have even attempted to do this because it seemed like every character except for Anna only got one or two moments to narrate for themselves. This film was not very interesting visually. In fact, when it tried to do interesting things with the camera, it became noticeable. I swear there must have been 3 or 4 moments with the same "dramatic" shot which tracked into a close-up on Anna quickly and then held its place in a sort of suspense before Anna spoke. Other than this, just a bunch of still shots in this movie and not much camera movement. I really enjoy at least a little camera movement in movies I watch. I only appreciate films filled with still shots if the movie is dramatic and interesting enough to survive without relying on the art of the camera. The one aspect I really liked about the film is that Anna was portrayed to be a stronger individual, not nearly as annoying and indecisive as in the novel. But honestly, just skip this movie, you can spend your time in better ways.
