Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

They very much have a physical attraction for one another, and he loves her, and would go back to her in a heartbeat. She on the other hand does not feel the same way. It would appear she has not truly loved anyone, and although, she most definitely feels something for him, it is not enough to make her change her present way of life. It is the kind of work that you feel you must see again, to help get some of the background story straight. Is what happened, actually what you're thinking happened. These two actors both do a great job in this production, they are a pleasure to watch... the prolonged scene where they're getting undressed to go to bed is especially good. They are both the type you can probably not think of a movie where you didn't somewhat enjoy their performance. Story's don't always have to be complicated, just well written, produced, and performed. Sounds so simple.. then why are they so many more times not as good as this very worthwhile little film. This one is surely going into 'the library' for future viewing.

A film that might have worked better as a play, or perhaps with another actor cats opposite Helena Bonham-Carter (who was excellent in this). She covers a range of vulnerability and strength, of weariness and excitement, that felt fitting to this kind of moment where past and present collide. And all collisions at a wedding are likely awkward enough, hers all the moreso. The film is shot in a split screen mode, to provide the differing viewpoints of the man and woman involved (per the director on the bonus section) but it doesn't often achieve that, and also opts to insert flash-backs perhaps to break up the stage-y nature of the script. Those could be seen as recollections by the characters, but they felt more like a magician's sleight of hand distraction. While I dig a dialog-driven movie, there were enough clunky moments to tear me away from the honest emotions trying to be captured. And the split screen, being so persistent and often kind of meaningless, added to the feeling of artifice.Which might be fine for a film from the Czech New Wave, but maybe not for a modern drama? The role of cellphones was interesting aside from an asinine scene for Aasron Eckhart's character.Ultimately all of the flaws (it feels like a student film, and I was rooting for it early on) could have been surpassed I think, if Eckhart and Bonham-Carter had more on-screen chemistry. At least that's my take, their chatter on the bonus had a little more natural warmth, and it could be that in the script Eckhart was not given enough redeeming moments, and so unless you just swoon at the sight of him (ladies, your mileage may vary?) then it's hard to not just want Bonham to opt for bonbons and a bad movie alone in her room.

Review: This is a cleverly written movie about 2 childhood sweethearts that reunite at the wedding. The whole movie is shot with 2 cameras so your watching it from 2 different angles. The film really does seem like its shot without any takes and that it's one conversation between 2 people. There are only 2 characters through the majority of the movie, but as they are 2 top class actors, they do make the movie interesting and entertaining. I know that the movie is old, but I thought that I would give it a go as there isn't that many movies out this month. I'm glad that I chose this film because it's a very original and a different way of shooting a film. Surprisingly Enjoyable!Round-Up: Aaron Eckhart is another one of those actors that doesn't get the recognition that he is due. He was great in The Dark Knight and he was missed in The Dark Knight Rises. He was a great choice for this movie and the chemistry between him and Helen Bonham Carter was great. I must admit, I couldn't see where the hell the movie was going from the beginning, but once it starts going its funny and emotional in parts.Budget: $450,000 Worldwide Gross: $975,000I recommend this movie to people who are into there movies about 2 childhood sweethearts that reunite at a wedding. 6/10

I am not a fan of split screens unless they are used judiciously and sparingly. In this case it is constant and annoying, I am constantly reminded that this is only a movie. I want a movie to be a total immersion experience; as if I am there. This is a movie of conversation and little else, neither of these two are up to the task at hand. Plus it is simply a rehash of cutesy romantic comedy that's been done before...Only much better. I found myself wishing it would hurry up and end as it was painfully apparent how it would end. No surprises here. Now if this was a movie with say, Judy Dench and Anthony Hopkins, then maybe it would be a sure 7 or 8. I feel this was a good case for poor type casting and questionable directing. Some say this is a ground breaking movie of sorts ?? Why I cannot fathom, I found it boring at best.
