All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
Beautiful Mandy Lane isn't a party girl but, when classmate Chloe invites the Texas high school student to a bash in the countryside, she reluctantly accepts. After hitching a ride with a vaguely scary older man, the teens arrive at their destination. Partying ensues, and Mandy's close pal, Emmet, keeps a watchful eye on the young males making a play for Mandy. Then two of the students are murdered.

For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
A lot! This movie is rated as low as it can possibly go, and that is because these people rather watch a boring found footage, or drawn out take the whole movie to do something and nothing happens to the last 10 minutes and they call that better movie. That is where they are totally stupid and wrong.Sitting there watching the whole movie and nothing happens, that is a boring movie. That is a waste of time. At least thing had something happening throughout the movie. So sick of great movies rated low because of this crap. They should never be allowed to rate movies.Violence is always better than nothing at all happening. So sick of found footage praised, and boring nothing happening movies praised. This movie is about trying to figure things out and why and who is the killer, and when you find out, you are like whoa. Also, still this site does not force mandatory rate or votes. Still lame as heck, because it still shows bad reviews and ratings. How can they still want this site to suck because of that? I mean it does not suck but the ratings do. They will never be accurate because of this.
While it is all well and good to do "clever" films like Cabin in the Woods that de-construct the genre, the real challenge is to the film right from the getgo. Here I think the very talented director Jonathan Levine succeeds. Possibly the best slasher flick in decades.Aside from a really tight script, and direction/cinematography on par with a Hollywood "A" flick, we also have generally top-rate performances from the young cast.Of particular interest is Anson Mount, five years before Hell on Wheels, stealing every scene that is not otherwise nailed down.Years ago a reviewer said that the test of a good slasher film is whether, in spite of the body count, the viewer would want to be in the film because everyone seems to be having a good time time. This film passes that test.
Hmmm ... The only positive thing that I can say about the movie is the twist when it turns out that Mandy Lane is not what it seems when the other girl runs into her arms for protection ...I think that half of the movie nothing happens - and as the movie is short, some 80 minutes, that means that 40 to 45 minutes of the movie you get nothing... It is kinda strange that it is not entirely boring, but, nevertheless, it drags your attention.Tipical movie of the bunch of friends who disappear one by one. This is not a horror movie,as nothing is scary. It can be some kind of a lame psycho thriller as Mandy's best friend clearly is a psycho, though she is too. But the motives for their conduct is unclear...So, this is not totally awful movie, but you lose nothing if you skip it. Can not say one positive thing why should anyone watch it ...well, maybe some scenes of boobs flashing.
If you don't look carefully this is just a run-of-the-mill slasher pic with a surprise ending. But if you look at all the scenes, this is a much cleverer slasher spoof than Scream could ever hope to be. (next bit contains some spoilers, but I hope I have't given away too much)For instance the slutty girl, who you assume is the first to die (as usual) actually outlasts her, er, doting boyfriend. And the cast spends more time either seeming bored or developing crushes on the unobtainable heroine than running away screaming or investigating dark places, even though their friends are disappearing one-by-one. And the silent, sinister masked killer suddenly turns out to be a geeky, lovestruck idiot! And finally, in my second favorite bit (excluding the ending twist), the killer chases a girl through the field, not to heavy metal or psycho-style chords, but perky, upbeat pop.About the only thing I didn't fully get was the scene in the pit full of dead cows; was it a clever bit of imagery to show the killer thought no more of the victim than a butcher does of the cattle he/she slaughters, or was it just a bit of gratuitous gore?Well worth a look for the clever camera work and surprise ending, and then worth a second look to see how many knowing nods to the standard slasher pic you can spot. Oh, and I challenge you not to shudder slightly when you hear 'sealed with a kiss' playing over the final shot, when you realize you might have just had a glimpse into how a real psychopath's mind might work...
