Sorry, this movie sucks
A Masterpiece!
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
This movie does not have a cohesive plot or point. Half of the time I was wondering whether or not one of the 30+ characters were going to die. This movie fails to movie in the worst ways possible. Morgan Freeman does a great job at being a creepy old man who ends the movie by asking one of the main character's to come be his "little girl". He also watched a couple have sex in a football stadium for longer than necessary. I mean he could have acted a little more surprised or even shocked. Instead he just sits there and watches them for an inordinate amount of time. Oh wait, I forgot that this movie has no sense of time whatsoever.
I picked this movie because it had my favourite actor; Morgan Freeman in it and as always it was not a disappointment. This movie is a beautiful movie about love and what can happen when we love blindly. It is a very real feel good movie. Perfect cast members. I did notice however that the girl that plays one of the wives in the movie...this is the second time that she has had a role that had a homosexual indication. Typecast?? I hope not. Lovely movie though. Just lovely. The cast was a perfect blend and it appeared that the characters had a wonderful rapport. The movie went smoothly, wasn't too slow or too long, it was for me the blend of a movie.
I often buy DVD's when they are a special low price,3 for a good deal. I have been very surprised that many of these low price films have been absolute gems. I bought this film as 1 of 3 and have not rushed to watch it.In fact, I only bought it because I saw the name Morgan Freeman who has never been a disappointment in any film of his I have watched. This film is not only a gem, it is a sparkling diamond. A beautifully told story with a mature and meaningful script. It is well acted with all performances being almost subdued, hinting always at something more, which added a special charm.Never a moment when the acting seemed unrealistic. Some exceedingly good performances. The character development is complex but good direction and acting enables one to quickly identify the core of the characters.Excellently directed and clever film technique, turning the everyday surroundings into a comforting homeliness, familiarity, whilst yet possessing something especially appealing. The story is entirely believable and the plot develops in intriguing and interesting ways. If you haven't seen it yet, then you are missing something of endearing quality. I have no hesitation in awarding a top 10 for this film.
OK, let me just start off by saying that if you aren't 15 and madly in love or in a mid-life crisis, this movie will seem extremely extremely cheesy...By cheesy, I mean "I wanted to feel in my body as much pain as I feel in my heart" (get over yourself)... and the actor is meant to say this without laughing. Seriously though i found some parts of the dialog excruciating. As well, who talks about their recently turned lesbian ex-wife to a complete stranger? Also the story itself seems to have been written by either a 15 year old or a midlife criser. It's just so cliché... the young couple with a tragic end, the alcoholic father, the cutely naive 40 year old who gets his heart stomped on over and over again, and above all, the wise old black man. I think it's about time for Morgan Freeman to find other parts to play... It's also cliché in that everyone falls in love at first sight, somehow confusing lust for love. The acting was overall OK, though sometimes Kinnear makes you raise an eyebrow. Truly, I think the producers noticed the movie wouldn't have cut it, so they decided to throw in a few naked chicks and I guess it works, I mean i stayed till the end. The only reason i stayed though was for Alexa Davalos (bom chicka wah wah). This could have been a really really good soap opera.
