I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
You want to know what was "truly outrageous" about this film? Not only did everybody seem to "write ]it] off in advance", but "everybody" included the promotional department at Universal Pictures. I believed when I watched this film the first weekend of its (abysmally short) theatrical run that it was a goldmine, and I still do. Not only was I blown away that they succeeded in producing a major motion picture with the budget of an independent one, but I walked out of the theater I watched it in wondering what the matter was with everyone who turned their backs on it. It's a coming-of-age story about people finding their way in life. What could be better than that?So, it wasn't a frame-for-frame duplication of the animated series. So what? When I want to watch the animated series, I watch the animated series. I was stoked to see this film, and I don't regret it. Would've gone more if it wasn't pulled so fast. Universal needs to give this thing a second chance with a REAL promotional campaign. The sooner, the better.SHOWTIME, SYNERGY!
You elitist snobs reviewing this movie are ridiculous. It's an origin-story, and it highlights the talents of some amazing actresses. They did justice to the storyline for the modern age. Jem and the Holograms was a faint memory from a golden time, reimagined and made relatable for the current times. I loved the comics as a child, and now my daughter loves Jem because of this movie and the soundtrack. I appreciate that they updated it for current time s, and I hope against hope they build on the storyline. Besides merchandise, there's inspiration to be shared. <3 J
i thought this movie was great and gave viewers a fresh look at a old and classic cartoon. the story was cool and i also thought the actors did a good job in their roles and with the singing too. i also loved the costumes and makeup. i also thought the treasure hunt for the pieces to synergy was a cool aspect of the movie as well. All in all, this was and is an awesome movie that i think everyone should see.
Jon Chu should be banded from anything prior to 2000. This was really really bad. I have seen amateurs with old camcorders make better films than the garbage he created with this movie. Actually calling it garbage is an insult to garbage. No originality it is basically Hannah Montana, why didn't he just call it Hannah Montana and friends that would have been more applicable this had absolutely nothing to do with Jem, and to make it worse the script, sucked....
