Sadly Over-hyped
Just what I expected
Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
If you're a Benson/Moorhead fan, its best to watch this film first. I watched the duo's latest film 'The Endless' before this film, but the two interlink (although The Endless is not a sequel). They share the same universe, and the characters from 'The Endless' interact with characters from 'Resolution'. It might sound confusing, but I assure you it is not. I did, however, feel 'The Endless' was a huge improvement on this film, and see it more as a remake with a lot more detail, and a much clearer view of what is actually going on. 'Resolution' is much less detailed but and leaves a lot to your imagination, but be warned, this film also has some very freaky moments!
Resolution is an independent horror movie with supernatural elements. It transcends various genre tropes and portrays a look into the inner fabric of horror narratives, exposing the viewer's voyeuristic tendencies regarding the fate of the onscreen characters. It does so with a very modest budget - however, the drawbacks regarding actor's performances and the technical production never compromise the movie's suspenseful mystery. The ending might be polarizing, however, it also makes the movie open for discussion, which is more than one can say about most horror movies.Overall 7/10 Full review on movie-discourse.blogspot.de
A small paced movie with a so so mysterious story. The movie sends us some clues about what might have been happening in the cabin or its surroundings during the past years, but at the end... nothing is uncovered.Nothing that happens is relevant for the action! The reservation Indians are not relevant for the action. The weird persons that show up are not relevant for the action. The only reason for the action is the struggle between a childhood friend vs his drug addiction. Those are good drama scenes. If this was the main action of the movie it would have been a nice drama film. By using the past ghosts of a man trying a self redemption by saving his addicted friend. All the mystery is useless, despite some futuristic / sci-fi scenes that allow a spirit or an alien to control nowadays technology and predict the future...All the mystery ends in a ridiculous way, so it's BAD.
I think anyone reading these reviews that hasn't seen this yet should just watch it.It's different, it's strange, and the ending is... bizarre?it's so different from other movies that it's worth watching, a budget film that has an original idea, you'll question whats going on while you watch but the end is a proper 'what the...?!!' moment that doesn't seem to make sense, and so you try to make sense of it, and think about it for a long time...It's not action packed, but it'c clever enough to keep you going along with it, and i think it really underrated looking at the reviews,
