Such a frustrating disappointment
I'll tell you why so serious
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Looper is a clever film. Time travel is always a sticky issue, but this movie embraces the impossibilities and invites the audience to just enjoy the ride. And whatever flaws this movie has, it makes up for it with its creativity. Plus, Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes a great Bruce Willis. We need more movies like Looper.
B for originality, at least compared to what's out these days. F for gratuitous violence which completely detracts from a potentially good story line. Makes one wonder about the mind of someone who feels the need to create something like this. F for failure to create any sympathetic characters. You *want* to *like* someone, anyone! Sorry. By end of the movie I didn't care about any of them.
This is a movie for people who pay attention to every detail. I loved this movie so much I watched again the next day!
The writer/director has had a reasonable and interesting concept but didn't have the writing or directorial skills to pull it off. This would have been so better given to someone actually with talent in those areas. Most of the negative reviews do correctly identify the downsides to this film, except the ridiculous one pulling is "misogyny" when it's non-existent. I'm not going to do a synopsis of the issues as others have correctly identified them. For me the summary is a film that passes time, has interesting concepts but was a wasted opportunity because of poor execution and writing.
