best movie i've ever seen.
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
It's brilliant. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I don't write reviews of films, but the overall rating of this film has been pissing me off for years, so I thought I would let my voice be heard. I understand why some would not enjoy watching this film. It's morbid. It's strange and unconventional. It's grotesque, but charmingly grotesque? It's also funny, kinda silly, exciting, and a little frightening. So, you see, it's brilliant. It has all you need. Or, at least, it has what I need. I don't know what that says about me, but I don't care. I likes what I likes. The set design (if that's what it is called), particularity of the apartment, is fantastic. It's dark and magical. I pause the film so I can peep the little details. And there are so many interesting details to take in. I'd live in that freakish set of rooms. I'd clean up a bit, bit I could be very happy there. The lighting really adds to the ambience as well. Just a really cool feel to the film. I basically watch anything with Simon Pegg in it because he brings me joy. He makes me happy. Spaced helps me sleep because of the comfort it brings to me - like a child's favorite blanket or stuffed animal. Enough about that though. A good portion of the movie is like a one man show, which, in my opinion, is lovely. I could have watched an entire movie of Pegg just wandering around his apartment, all paranoid and freaked out. So, if you love Simon Pegg and enjoy morbid yet amusing stories, you will probably like this film. Give it a go and keep your mind open.
I will tell you something about Crispian Mills. He was not much cop as a lead singer of Kula Shaker and is a horrible filmmaker. In ' A Fantastic Fear of Everything' Simon Pegg plays a peculiar crime writer who needs to get to a meeting with a Hollywood mogul. He is obsessed with serial killers and has fear of launderettes due to a childhood incident. He lives in an area where the Vietnamese mafia run rampage. The film wants to be a surreal, cultish black comedy. It even has some animation. It is just irritating, silly and boring. The scene where Pegg supposedly is on a rampage with a knife glued to his hand is so inept, it has to be seen to be believed.
This film is absolutely terrible we were desperate for something to watch and found this with simon pegg thinking it was a safe bet as he has done obvious good films. Narrrgggh this film is rotten we lasted about 50 mins and enden up with it just on in the background what was he thinking do they not watch their own film or do they get so Rich it doesn't matter what tripe they bash out its money in the bank, 99% of the time hes running round his flat looking unconvincingly scared with his knife not even sure there is anyone else in this film Boring Boring Boring ROTTEN PEGG stick to what you know fat boy run etc was fantastic what the hell is this tripe, sure you will get a few fools who think its a dark comedy or cult follow etc etc nargh don't risk it its crud.
After reading so many of these reviews having mixed feeling on this film I felt it was appropriate I determine the judgement by an actual viewing. This is not your usual Simon Pegg film, as many reviewers have pointed out, since it's not his film. He does add a certain style of comedy to the film sure but he's not the director and that needs to be thrown out of peoples mind before viewing this. Jack is a paranoid writer who's research into the greatest serial killers in history only makes his fear get the better of him. The film does an excellent job of portraying Jack's point of view through the skewed camera angles, the dramatic lighting and dynamic cinematography. The first act really utilizes the camera to show our protagonists twisted view of the world. While most people are saying these things are irrational and random I feel it's perfectly justified since the point of view is of a utterly paranoid view who hasn't had a good rest. It's a job well done. It's a great tale of a man overcoming his fears, Man vs himself. My only real complaint is the ending felt a bit too clichéd. It's a cute story with a fresh premise and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a laughs with a not too deep story.
