A Perfect Getaway
For their honeymoon, newlyweds Cliff and Cydney head to the tropical islands of Hawaii. While journeying through the paradisaical countryside the couple encounters Kale and Cleo, two disgruntled hitchhikers and Nick and Gina, two wild but well-meaning spirits who help guide them through the lush jungles. One of my all time favorites.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I stumbled on this 2009 movie over the weekend looking for something to watch. I normally would not have chosen a movie that looks like a cheap thriller in the line of The Ruins, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is entertaining and, well, surprising. It stars Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich, as well as Timothy Olyphant, who is one of my celebrity crushes, and the main reason that I watched it at all. It was made by David Twohy, who is best known for Pitch Black and Riddick. Not sure why so many of the users here complain about the ending - it was explained adequately in my opinion, and if it was contrived, that doesn't detract from the general entertainment value of the film. It didn't change my life, but it was a fun 2 hours.
This movie definitely works. It's paced well and keeps you guessing. When the twist comes, I was genuinely surprised. It's a pretty simple movie that works because of a well thought out story and a solid script. With those things in order, a movie always has a good chance of working. The other elements of the movie were pretty solid over all but nothing special. I wasn't impressed with the cinematography. It's okay, but could have been better and much more creative and artistic, especially in such a scenic location. The acting was okay, and the cast mostly worked, but I could see other actors bringing another dimension to the roles. My main complain, and this is mostly a directorial thing, but also editing and cinematography, was after the big reveal, it cut to flashbacks that explain the story, which went on way too long in my opinion. It gets the job done, but I could see it done in a cooler way.Overall, it's a movie that works, but with a more creative director, it could have been really great. Instead, the director got the job done effectively, but didn't really stylize it in a notable way.Definitely a movie worth watching. You probably don't need to own it or watch it over and over, but the first viewing will make for good solid entertainment.
This film tells the story of a newlywed couple who goes on a honeymoon in Hawaii. They read the news about a double murder in Hawaii, and the killer is on the lose. Everyone on the island is in panic as a result."A Perfect Getaway" shows very beautiful Hawaiian scenery. The sky is always clear, the water is crystal blue and the trees perfectly green. This paradise is the setting to a gruesome murder, and viewers have to guess who is the real killer. The first half of the film is a little boring, as it takes time to set the scene. I also find it a bit annoying and over the top that they decided not to show Chris Hemsworth's face in the first scene that he appears! This would not have happened if he had the current fame and popularity back then. The second half of the film is more action, with cruel acts inflicted on characters. However, the scenes are somehow weird and does not scare me. In fact they make me giggle, especially the scene where the guy in the canoe wakes back up in water and the shot immediately after that.Overall, "A Perfect Getaway" is an OK film to pass time, but just don't expect too much.
To me what counts the most when I watch a mystery thriller is that I have to try to figure out who are the villains for as long as possible. In A Perfect Getaway you have that feeling for a long time, even though I figured it out way before they actually showed it, I still was not certain so it didn't really matter. The story is entertaining and there is suspense. That's the most important. Then you have the cast. They, of course, have to be good actors preferably. And with Milla Jovovich and Timothy Olyphant you have good actors, so that was okay as well. The filming was fine, even if I had some moments that I was not completely satisfied, but nothing major to bug me. There were also a couple things that didn't really add up, but again nothing major, so all in all it's an entertaining movie. Certainly worth a watch.
