Undescribable Perfection
How sad is this?
brilliant actors, brilliant editing
The first must-see film of the year.
Saw this at the theater with my girlfriend, who was angry as we walked out. Guess the depressing mood was too much for her. I loved it. Direction was impeccable. Acting by Paxton, Thornton, Gary Cole, and really all involved was top notch. It's a shame you can't find movies like this at the theater any more. Some say it steals from the Cohen bros but I say it's an original as hell take on reality for many living in America, 20 years ago and now. Can money by you love? Can money by you happiness? Can it make your life better? I'd like to think that yes, it can, but after watching this you may reconsider that possibility. This film is not for those who are depressed. It's pretty darn depressing and will likely bring the depressed even further down the stinker, but it is one hell of a movie. HIGHLY recommended.
this movie is a bit like Fargo: rednecks try to scheme in winter land except that here it's not funny at all but rather very dark: the movie starts very well: this rural country under the snow is magnificent, the two brothers and buddy are original, wife as new mother is tender and the discovery is thrilling. However things deteriorate quickly (following wife advice) and tension between the guys gets up as they are breaking apart on their own! It ends on a nightmare and it's really heavy... So i suppose Sam did indeed a good movie as i wasn't feeling good and it's true that all the cast is excellent: Late Bill Paxton, Gone Bridget and Thornton has at least a part for which we can support him... and Cole as bastard as ever!
This is a well directed, scripted and acted good solid thriller. If you are in the mood to be entertained for a couple of hours then this will be the ticket. It isn't innovative or genre-redefining or anything like that. It is a conservative film in many ways but although I love innovative cinema sometimes you just want the honest entertainment that you have here. This has some great twists and turns. It plays on the emotions very cleverly. It does deliver on the thrills.
Let's see... we'll make a counting game. (1) Count the number of dumb and dumber people; and (2) count the dead people. I knew things were going to go deadly wrong from the beginning and figured Hank (Bill Paxton) would probably survive.Bridget Fonda cannot act. Period. That was the other thing that I hated about this film. And Billy Bob Thornton! It's as if he's saying, "Look at me! I'm ACTing!" Can't stand him either. In summary, a very predictable story. Boring. I hate it when a thriller is predictable. Watch "In The Bedroom" or "Dead Again." Now those movies are true thrillers.
