A waste of 90 minutes of my life
I have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I honestly don't get other reviewers who call this tripe a 'masterpiece',it is indeed one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Perhaps it lost something in the awful English dubbing, but I seriously doubt it. All the characters are just plain weird, right up to their reactions to other family members in danger, the husband who stands watching as his wife is attacked by a bat to the mother who forgets to go racing to her son when he's in distress and almost takes a stroll to get there, don't even get me started on characters who do nothing when they are being poked in the chest and neck, having their throats slashed and ripped out,or,don't try to grab something as they are being slowly dragged down stairs. The plot itself is so full of holes it could be used as a collander, and, even for it's time the fx are truly, truly awful. Do yourself a big favour and stay awaay from this incredible stinker.
OK, this one has some genuine frights. It's cheaply made, cheesily acted and not at all fresh, but considering the amount of horror garbage that I've been forcing myself to watch, this one is classic by comparison. Some of the shocks just take the gore way to far, but the frightening moments really took me by shock. I prefer suspense over blood and guts, and if it's done right, I will be genuinely chilled to the bone. So I have seen this plot before, but at least it made an impression on me.The opening scene is a shocker, so beware. It sets up the visual of the little boy looking at a picture of a mysterious house, and he is shocked when he ends up in the house near Boston with his parents also recognizing it. Mommy seems to be having some sort of breakdown as they settle in, and when they go into the basement, an encounter with a bat really sets everybody (including me) on edge. The scary scenes, for the most part, really help move the story along.Surprised by the fact that this kept my interest, I couldn't help but turn away in the really grizzly scenes that include decapitations and disembowelment. But that didn't take away from my overall impression of the film, because I knew that the conclusion would be intense and tie everything together. So if you are as squeamish as I am, be prepared. This one is worth putting up with those moments.
It's pretty discouraging to see so many idiots in one place, giving this thing 10 stars and calling it a masterpiece. There is NOTHING redeeming about it. Someone asked if it's a slasher film or a zombie film. It's a garbage film. It reminds me of the little stunt they did for the Halloween party in third grade, playing a recorded horror story in a darkened room while passing around raw chicken parts. The storyline is inane, the editing is crummy, of course the voices are dubbed. The gore is gore for its own sake unconnected to whatever it's emerging from. The candidate for worst movie ever made is Manos, the Hands of Fate. This one is just as bad, but without the unintended humor. The continuous and gratuitous gore makes this mess impossible to watch except to those like the infants at the Halloween party, a kind of cult following for spaghetti slasher movies. Getting off on stuff like this isn't so sick as it is mediocre.
Lucio Fulci's 1981 horror film stars Catriona McColl, Paolo Malco, Giovanni Frezzi, Ania Pieroni, Silvia Collatina and Giovanni De Nava. McColl (City of the Living Dead) plays Lucy Boyle, a woman who travels from New York to Boston with her husband, Norman (Malco), a professor and their young son, Bon (Frezzi) where they move into the old house by the cemetery. Bob is warned by a little girl, Mae (Collatina) not to go into the house because bad things happened. He's the only one that can see Mae and soon, strange things happen around the house making Lucy frightened. She and Norman learn that murders took place there involving deceased, professor, Freudian (De Nava) and his family. They also learn that someone or something is hiding in the cellar. Pieroni plays Ann, the babysitter. This is an OK horror flick with a decent cast (aside from the bad dubbing) and gory make-up effects. I'd still check this one out at least once if you're into horror.
