Great Film overall

A waste of 90 minutes of my life

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

This one came out before the legendary Cannibal Holocaust. I must say I liked this one slightly better story and character wise. Of course the gory scenes where animals (and humans) do get cut open and skinned are not always easy to stomach. I'm glad they didn't shy away from the cruelties otherwise the powerful message would be lost. Whether it is based on true events or not doesn't matter to me. The movie did a good job in following the experiences of Robert Harper and made me want to root for him unlike the white reporters in Cannibal Holocaust. The cannibals here are anything but nice however it is understandable they wanted to defend their land against the gold diggers. But not only the cannibals are a threat the jungle is full of other dangers in wild animals and poisonous plants.

Also known as Last Cannibal World, Jungle Holocaust, at first glance, may appear to be Ruggero Deodato's warm-up for the more brutal Cannibal Holocaust from a few years later. Out of all the insanity spawned from the misunderstood Italian Cannibal sub-genre, this one is the only one I would have the nerve to refer to as a beautiful movie. pleasant scenery, an unfittingly inspirational score, brutality, and more brutality, and a surprisingly better storyline than most of these.Robert Harper and his traveling companion's plane suddenly breaks down in the deepest depths of New Guinea. After a long, uneasy night, The two are separated. Now, Robert is stranded alone in a harsh, unforgiving jungle nightmare with no way of knowing where to go. Robert can only hope he won't be eaten by an animal. But hey, at least there aren't any cannibal tribes in these parts...Now that Mr. Harper is locked in a cage after being captured by the local cannibals, all he can do is await his inevitable demise. Tortured, humiliated, and starving, things seemingly can't get much worse, and getting urinated on isn't helping. These sadistic primitives don't even realize Harper is a human being. After a few days, Harper, with the help of one of the ladies of the tribe, escapes, and ends up taking her with him. In an ironic twist, the primitive young lady takes a liking to Robert after he rapes her. Together, they barely avoid various dangers (everything) and witness atrocity after atrocity (jungle abortion) while she slowly shows him the way to safety. All Robert can do is hold on to enough sanity to make it through this never-ending, nerve-racking journey into nowhere.Not the first, but the first great Cannibal epic, Jungle Holocaust is much more than a Cannibal movie, Jungle Holocaust is just an all around quality movie, and my personal favorite of this particular sub-genre. It certainly ain't the goriest, although the key elements for Jungle Gore are all present, and it is a bit more dreary than the others, which should be seen as a good thing. Not quite the reputation of something like Cannibal Holocaust or Cannibal Ferox, and really, it shouldn't, but this one is certainly a must for anyone who digs this stuff. Such harsh content should have most people running for the hills, but If you don't hate graphic gore, or perhaps even like it, you just might not hate the Jungle Gore Epic. Possibly a 10/10, but as usual, the authentic animal killings bring it down a notch. 9/10

Robert Harper is a explorer with a crew who are flying over the Malyasian jungles until their plane crash lands there. Some of the crew are mysteriously killed and his best friend is lost as well, a tribe of cannibal wild people capture Robert as they torture and humiliate him a lovely cannibal woman helps him try to escape so he can be find his friend and get out.Entertaining, bloody and well made Italian cannibal horror adventure directed by the man who gave the world the infamous "Cannibal Holocaust" known as Ruggero Deoato, this movie serves as a prequel to that movie and is supposedly based on a true story. The performances especially by the gorgeous Mei Mei Lei are good and there's some nice gore effects like a open chest cannibalism scene, the movie does have some scenes of real animal killing such as a bat being fed to a snake and a live Alligator butchering that is quite reminiscence of the Turtle killing scene in "CH". While not as brutal as "CH", this movie is a very good film of the Italian horror genre and of the most underrated.A must see but not if your squeamish! Wasn't quite sure what to think from this earlier film from Ruggero Deodata, who brought us the universally "infamous" CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. I figured it wouldn't be nearly as rough or "controversial", and I was right. But JUNGLE HOLOCAUST is still a good film in it's own right...The film starts with four people (Robert, Rolf, Charlie, and Swan) flying into the jungles of Malaysia to meet up with some of their camp. Upon landing, the plane breaks a wheel (of course...) and it's found that the camp-members have all disappeared. Knowing that the area is in "cannibal territory" and expecting the worst for their colleagues, the four decide to wait out the night in the plane and fly out in the morning. Swan decides she has to take a leak, so she gets out of the plane - big mistake. She gets abducted by cannibals (of course...) and the three remaining chivalrous adventurers decide not to go looking for her til morning. The next day, they go out to search for Swan, and Charlie (the pilot) is killed by a trap that the cannibals have left. This leaves Rob and Rolf, until they decide to build a raft to try to follow the river back to their plane, and Rolf goes overboard (of course...). This leaves Rob who is eventually kidnapped by the cannibals. They don't kill him, but instead they tie him to a rock, strip his clothes off, and play with his wiener for a bit (I guess no one ever told the cannibals that playing with another man's ding-ding is not good manners). They end up sticking Rob in a cage with a weird annoying bird that steals the little bit of slop that the natives throw down to him. Rob eventually ends up spotting a sexy cannibal native (smokin' hot Me Me Lai) who sports an impressive set of miraculously implanted tits (I hear they have good surgeons in the jungles of Malaysia...) and she frees him. They run off together in the woods and with Rob all the while smacking her around like Ike Turner. Eventually Rob gets horny and rapes Me Me (hey, you can hardly blame the brother...) and after that she seems to feel a "connection" for our "hero", and she keeps them alive by picking local roots and stuff and finding some sort of really tasty looking mud-fish. They eventually run into Rolf who's suffering from a nasty leg-wound and has holed himself up in a cave. The three end up making a run for the plane, but Me Me gets captured and dispatched in typical gory cannibal-film fashion. Rob ends up fighting and killing one of the natives and cutting him open and chewing on his liver to show the other natives what a bad-ass he is - then Rob and Rolf get to the plane and escape. THE END...Although I may have over-dramatized for the sake of my review, JUNGLE HOLOCAUST is actually a very decent "survival" film. It's not the blood-bath of some of the other notable cannibal films, like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST or CANNIBAL FEROX, but as a film about a few people trying to survive in the wild, it holds up very well. There are a few animal killing scenes, but the ones that are perpetrated by humans are for the preparation of meals, or are authentic battles between jungle animals. The gore is lighter than I would have expected, with only 3 scenes that I can think of that showed any decent amount of the red-stuff. Overall, JUNGLE HOLOCAUST would be of interest to those that dig the Italian cannibal films, but don't expect a gore-fest - you'll be disappointed - But Me Me Lai and her big fake tits are a definite bonus...7.5/10
