The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Brilliant comedy horror! At the time of writing I haven't seen the original Chucky but I have seen the two previous dire sequels. This sequel is original, comic and very entertaining with brilliant catchphrases and Jennifer Tilly looking and acting stunningly sultry. The violence is entertaining and the story good. Sometimes the computer effects take over too much and the film is not scary but other than that this is a solid, well-directed, highly entertaining film which is a sequel but could happily stand on its own with a bit more back-story explanation.
Been a huge fan of Child's Play since the very first one. The 3rd one got lousy write ups, but i enjoyed it enough to buy a copy of it. In the third one, Chucky is thrown into the fan, where his body explodes into many tiny pieces. But when Tiffany picks him up in the fourth one, he is missing a few parts, but still mostly together. He also had half his face sliced off in the third one, but its all there in the fourth one. Anyone else notice this? And under the parents guide for the film the say a couple fall through a glass floor which is not true. The mirror above their bed was broken by doll Tiffany and shattered over them.
During the scream era many films took on the horror comedy variety your routine and Chucky was no exception. The opening shot was the coolest featuring the trade mask or weapon belonging to other creatures of the night. Are they all in the same world or a play for laughs? The title says it all Chucky has taken on a bride in a girl named Tiffy who's as murderous and nuts as he is.When she rejects his advanced he electrocutes her body and places her soul into a doll. Over the course of several days they fall back in love and kidnap a newlywed to use as vessels once they receive a magical amulet to trade bodies. Why haven't we heard of this before? He didn't seen to need it for Andy or Tyler? After the last sequel I almost quite the series forever until I happened on this amazing gem that restored my faith in the killer doll. It has a fun, sexy style while still keeping the horror elements that made it a household name to begin with. The body count rising with gruesome result that keeps you hooked till the bloody end.The acting improved with a few known talents Jennifer Tilly, John Ritter and Catherine Heigl. I even understand it that Don, the creator, considers it his favorite and for good reason. It flows flawlessly and was perfectly made.It didn't win any awards, but to me it was a stellar hour and a half I'll treasure a life time.
Please bear in mind that my harsh criticism is mostly due to my being 30 when I've first started watching the Chucky anthology. Had I been 20 years younger, I would have probably loved it. As an adult Horror enthusiast, each and every Chucky film up till now have been a remarkably unrewarding experience. While attempting to infiltrate the pantheon of slashers (and failing miserably), Chucky has made sure to let everyone know that logic is never a necessity. Freddie and Jason only get banished/defeated, so their return for each of the sequels is at least remotely comprehensible (which is all that's necessary considering mostly everything else about the slasher-monsters' supernatural strength and potency). Chucky, on the other hand, is constantly resurrected. How? How come? Who cares, Chucky's back and he's hilarious! Ha ha ha, right? Just what we want in a Horror film, to be half-entertained by a third rate comedian without a moment of actual fear. The good news is that the fourth sequel recognizes Chucky for what he is - a joke. That's why several scenes present a comic breaking of the 4th wall and some well deserved homages to those who actually succeeded where Chucky would forever fail (like Mike Mayers, Jason Voorhees and Hellraiser). In order to complete the comic effect, Chucky is this time accompanied by a female counterpart, the wonderful Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, Chucky's Bride. Their interactions and dynamics are quite hilarious.Adjectives such as "comic" and "hilarious" have absolutely no place in a Horror film. True, Freddie has always been the ultimate morbid comedian, but the story-line and plot have been eerie and at times terrifying (words that in no manner can be used to describe anything about any of the Chucky films so far). Just like the first 3 films, Bride of Chucky is good for a few laughs with your friends on Halloween, or maybe even as a drinking game. However, as a Horror film? Another moderately entertaining let down.
